In May, the British Supreme Court rejected Vijay Mallya‘s appeal to stop his extradition to India. Since then, the Indian government has been putting pressure on Britain to extradite fugitive Mallya. Britain has said that Vijay Mallya cannot be extradited yet.

Britain has told the Indian government that Vijay Mallya cannot be extradited yet. The UK government has said that a ‘confidential legal’ case involving Vijay Mallya is going on and till the matter is resolved, his extradition to India is not possible.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava has given this information. Significantly, in May, the British Supreme Court rejected Vijay Mallya’s appeal that his extradition to India be stopped. Since then,

the Indian government has been putting pressure on Britain to extradite fugitive Mallya. Vijay Mallya has many allegations like fraud and money laundering of loans worth thousands of crores of rupees from banks.

What did the foreign ministry say

According to news agency PTI, Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava said on Thursday, “Now we have been told that a confidential legal matter is going on and extradition cannot be done till the matter is resolved.”

In the UK since 2016

It is worth noting that Vijay Mallya, who is absconding with a loan of thousands of crores of rupees from banks, has been living in Britain since March 2016. He is currently out on bail. In April 2017, a warrant was issued against him by Scotland Yard.

Shock from supreme court

64-year-old Vijay Mallya was dealt a major blow by the order of the British Supreme Court. Earlier in the month of April, he was also defeated in the High Court of Britain.

In the month of June, the Indian government had urged Britain not to give asylum to Vijay Mallya, because there is no basis for him that he would be tortured in India. Then the UK government also indicated that Mallya may be extradited soon
